Our story

Established 2023. Scroll the years — from first shift to the Colonial Hockey League.

  1. 2023–24

    Where it all started

The Chicago Misfits took the ice for the first time in 2023–24 — new crew, new crest, and no soft openers.

First games meant a road trip west to Vail, Colorado. Brand-new team. Real competition from night one.

Opening weekend closed 7–3 and 8–6. The scores don’t tell the whole story. Both games stayed competitive until empty-netters stretched the margins — and the Misfits kept pushing anyway.

That trip locked in what this club is about: chase quality opponents, travel as a pack, and build a room players actually want to be in.

    The Misfits had arrived.

    Building the foundation

Year two brought the Misfits back to where the story started.

Chicago returned to Vail, Colorado, for another two-game road series — another chance to measure growth against real competition.

The Misfits fell 9–5 and 7–3. Same story as year one: both games were tighter than the board showed, empty-netters padded the margins, and the crew kept competing anyway.

But season two wasn’t about the win column. Showing up again proved this wasn’t a one-year experiment. The roster sharpened, the chemistry stuck, and the foundation got heavier.

Two seasons in, the target got bigger: expand the schedule, find ways to win on the road, and eventually bring Misfits hockey home to Chicago.

    The breakthrough season

Year three was the biggest jump in Misfits history — seven games, multiple road trips, and the first home ice in club history. For the first time, the wins came with it.

November opened with a statement: Misfits 12, Kenosha 5. January meant Idaho and the Sun Valley Suns — a senior-A measuring stick. Chicago dropped both (9–6, 9–1), but chasing that level of competition was the point.

March out West flipped the script. After a 7–3 loss in Santa Rosa, the Misfits answered the next night — 4–2. First road win west of Chicago. Three seasons after those Vail openers, the flight home finally felt different.

Spring brought it full circle: home games at the Blackhawks Community Ice Center. Friends, family, and the Chicago hockey community finally got the Misfits on home ice. A 6–4 loss to Kenosha, then a 10–7 shootout win over Lexington to close it out.

Final line: 3–4. First full season. First win out West. First home games. First home victory. Most successful Misfits year yet.
